Getting Started with SurePass
If your agency admin has already registered you, you can skip Registration.
Download the app and log in using your agency email address.
Registration
Click Law Enforcement Registration in the mobile app and complete the form.
- First Name — Use your legal name
- Last Name — Use your legal name
- Rank
- Badge Number
- Law Enforcement Agency — Select your agency from the dropdown list
- Email — Use your agency-issued email address, not a personal one
Note: If you try to register and see a message that your email is already in use, you have already been registered, so you can skip registration and sign in directly with your agency email.
Login
Once you have registered, please log in to the app using the email you registered with.
Upload a Photo
Your photo will be used on your Official Capacity ID (OCID) and must meet the following requirements:
- You must be the only person in the photo
- Your head and shoulders must be visible and centered in the frame
- Your face must be clearly visible and facing the camera
- File must be PNG, JPG, or HEIC format
- File must be no larger than 3MB
Your photo can also be added or updated at any time by clicking the menu (☰) button and going to the View MY OCID page. You can then edit your photo by clicking Edit Photo.
Optional: Add Your OCID to Your Mobile Wallet
For faster verification you can add your OCID to your mobile wallet.
- Sign in to the SurePass mobile app
- Open the menu (☰) in the top left corner
- View your OCID, If any information looks incorrect, contact your agency administrator or email help@surepass.com.
- Follow the prompts to add your credential to:
- Apple Wallet (iPhone)
- Google or Samsung Wallet (Android)
Then open your wallet to confirm it was added successfully.
- iPhone: Double-click the power button or open the "Wallet" app.
- Android: Double-click the power button or open the "Google Wallet" app.
Using your OCID at SurePass Checkpoints
There are 3 ways to scan at SurePass Checkpoints:
- QR Code
- Scan your QR code at a SurePass Checkpoint.
- SurePass Physical Credential
- Tap your SureCard or SureTag at a SurePass Checkpoint
Physical credentials are issued by your agency and must be activated in the SurePass mobile app before use.
- Wallet Pass
- Add your OCID to your mobile wallet and tap your phone at a SurePass Checkpoint
Note: Even without one of the credentials above, your email can be used to verify you.
Troubleshooting
Not receiving your verification code?
- Check your Spam or Junk folder. If found there, mark it as "Not Spam" and adjust your inbox settings so future codes come through to your Inbox.
- Tap the Did not get the code? button in the app to request a new code.
- Note: a new code is required every time you sign in — previous codes will not work.
Can't add your OCID to your wallet?
- Try switching from Wi-Fi to cellular data
- Some agency-managed devices (including Managed Apple IDs) may restrict wallet access — check with your IT administrator
- For Android wallet issues, refer to the Android Wallet troubleshooting guide
Can't scan your OCID at a checkpoint?
- Android users: make sure NFC is turned on in your device settings
- Remove any bulky phone cases that may interfere with scanning
- iPhone: hold the top of your phone near the reader; Android: hold the back near the reader
- Tap your device directly against the scanner
