Using SurePass as a Law Enforcement Official

Registering with SurePass

Using SurePass is as easy as downloading the app from the Google Play or Apple App Store and registering using your law enforcement credentials and the email address associated with your agency.

A few notes about registration:

  • Use your full, legal first and last name to expedite verification
  • Use the email address associated with your agency - personal email addresses will NOT be verified
  • Ensure that your photo is facing directly at the camera, above your shoulders and not a picture of an ID or of another picture

Once you have completed the registration and have passed our verification, you will receive an email with your access code to log into the SurePass app.

Once you have logged into the app, you can access your Official Capacity ID (OCID).

Accessing your Official Capacity ID (OCID)

Once you log in to the SurePass mobile app, you will be able to view your Official Capacity ID.

If you notice any issues with the information on your OCID, please contact your agency administrator or reach out to the SurePass Support team at help@surepass.com

Adding Your OCID to Your Mobile Wallet

In order to use your OCID at authorized SurePass checkpoints, you will need to add your OCID to your mobile wallet pass.

  1. Sign into the SurePass app on your mobile device by entering you email address and signing in using the six digit code that was sent to your associated email address.
  2. Once signed in, click the Menu button in the top left corner, which looks like three parallel lines.
  3. Click on the View OCID option underneath your name and image in the top left corner.
  4. ⚠️ Follow the prompts to add your OCID credential to your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet on your device.
    1. Click on the Add to Apple Wallet button if using an Apple device.
    2. Click on the View to Google Wallet  if using an Android device.
  5. Open your device's mobile wallet to confirm that your SurePass OCID has been successfully added. If you are unsure of how to access your mobile wallet, please follow these steps.

Using Your OCID at Authorized Checkpoints

Once your OCID has been added to your mobile wallet pass, you can simply present your mobile wallet at the reader to automatically pull up your OCID. Please follow the on-screen prompts to ensure that your mobile OCID is ready to scan.

Common Issues and How to Fix

  • If you are unable to scan your mobile OCID at the reader, it may mean that your device does not have NFC (near field communication) enabled. Follow these steps to enable NFC capabilities on your device:
    • If using an Android device, follow these steps to ensure that NFC capabilities are enabled:
      • On your Android device, open the Settings app.
      • In the search bar, type “NFC.”
      • Make sure that the NFC setting is toggled ON.
    • By default, Apple devices have NFC capabilities enabled.
  • If you have a bulky case or wallet case on your device, you may need to present the front of your screen to the SurePass reader to successfully scan in.
  • If you are using an Apple device, present the top portion of your phone to the checkpoint reader. This will pull up your Apple Wallet where you can then choose your SurePass OCID. Once selected, be sure to follow the on-screen instructions and double click the outside button on your phone to activate your OCID.
  • To use a mobile wallet on Android, you'll typically use Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet, depending on your phone. Google Wallet is generally available on most Android devices, while Samsung Wallet is specific to Samsung Galaxy phones. You'll need to download the app from the Play Store, add your debit or credit cards, and then enable NFC (if you're using tap-to-pay).
    • Some Android phones (Android 12 and higher) allow you to access Google Wallet directly from the lock screen by tapping the Wallet icon.
