Enabling PIN Verification for Checkpoints
The PIN verification feature provides an additional security measure at secure checkpoints. This is particularly useful for agencies that use shared devices at checkpoints and want to ensure that only authorized personnel can perform verifications. This feature can be enabled or disabled for each checkpoint.
How it Works
When the PIN verification feature is enabled at a checkpoint, any time a verifier uses the SurePass mobile app to verify a person, they will be prompted to enter a unique 4-digit PIN. This PIN must be entered after all screening questions are answered but before the final verification is logged.
- For Shared Devices: This feature adds accountability by ensuring each verification is tied to a specific verifier's PIN, rather than a general device login. This is ideal for security contractors or agencies who rotate shifts using the same device.
- For Secure Checkpoints: The PIN requirement adds an extra layer of security, making it harder for unauthorized personnel to perform verifications even if they gain access to the device.
Creating and Managing a Verifier PIN
A unique 4-digit PIN is automatically generated for all user roles except for Officials. A PIN is assigned to the following user roles:
- Verifier
- Admin
- Owner
- Super Admin
- Contract Security
You can view and manage user PINs from the user details page.
Admins and Owners can:
- Regenerate a new PIN for a user.
- Once a new PIN is generated, it can be shared with the user.
How to Enable PIN Verification
PIN verification is managed at the checkpoint level. It can be turned on or off for each specific checkpoint.
- Log in to the SurePass Admin Portal.
- Navigate to the Checkpoints section.
- Create a new checkpoint or select an existing one to edit.
- In the checkpoint settings, you will find an option to Require PIN Verification.
- Toggle this setting On to require a PIN for all verifications at that checkpoint.
- Toggle this setting Off if a PIN is not needed.
The PIN verification feature will be required at a checkpoint only if this setting is enabled.
If you have multiple checkpoints, you can have a mix of some that require PIN verification and some that do not.
