Walkthrough - Verify an Official at a Checkpoint
This guide will walk you through the process of verifying an official who is attempting to use their OCID at a SurePass checkpoint. As the Verifier, you will be responsible for reviewing the person presenting at the checkpoint and comparing their OCID, their police ID/commission card, and physical appearance to ensure they are legitimate.
Scanning with a Card Reader
- Ensure that the SurePass NFC reader at your checkpoint is plugged in and powered on.
- From the SurePass Mobile app, confirm that your Current Location and Current Checkpoint match where you are currently located. If this does not match, please follow the steps for Configuring a Checkpoint.
- Click the Scan with Card Reader option.
- Initially, you should see the Card Reader is Disconnected. You will need to connect to the Card Reader via Bluetooth by clicking on the Bluetooth Devices tab.
- If you do not see the SurePass Card Reader listed, please click the Find New SurePass Devices
- Click on the appropriate Sure Pass Card Reader device from the available devices on the list.
- You can now present an NFC card or OCID mobile pass to the card reader to begin verification.
Verification Flow
- Official presents their OCID at a SurePass checkpoint - either a mobile OCID, a SureCard or SureTag.
- Their OCID will appear on your checkpoint's tablet and provide a larger view of their headshot and other information associated with the official.
- Compare the image and information on the OCID to the official presenting at your checkpoint.
- Compare the image and information on the OCID to the official's law enforcement ID card.
- Once you are confident the OCID and official match, proceed to verbally asking the verification questions listed on your tablet.
- Select the appropriate option based on the official's responses.
- Once completed, you will see a message that either clears an official for entry OR a message that does NOT clear them for entry.
- If an official is not cleared for entry, please conduct additional screening as outlined by your security protocols.
Checkout Flow
- Once an official has been verified and admitted through a SurePass checkpoint, their entry is logged in a secure, digital record.
- When that official is leaving the secure location, they will exit from the same checkpoint and scan their OCID at the reader they used to check in. This will capture them checking out and log when they exited and what checkpoint/location they left from.
